Why you should coop this:

Trine (Enchanted Edition, never played the unremastered original) is a fun 2D puzzle platformer and stands out for two things: 1. it just looks very good and 2. it is a game for 3 player coop groups and there are not that many of those. The gameplay mostly consists of physics based puzzled that wants you to make use of all abilities the three different player classes have on offer. It is not very difficult, which does not negatively affect the fun since you will progress smoothly in a good pace. Some if not most puzzles involve one or two characters more than the rest which makes 1 player in some areas a little inactive but you can always help your fellow players to work out the solutions. There are some combat sequences but they are not too involved and just offer a small distraction – they feel easier than they are because you are able to respawn and the enemies will not regenerate their health. You are here for the puzzles. The puzzles are segmented – you work from room to room and all the variables you have for overcoming your obstacles are quickly apparent. Once you know what you have to do, you have to do some jump n run acrobatics to actually do it – especially the archer character with hookshot can do some impressive stunts. Due to the different abilities different Characters can go different ways – i.e. the archer jumps and swings over an obstacle while the knight and the sorcerer climb over a box the sorcerer conjured. This differences make each character fun to play, though you probably like one over the others. The game is nice and short and puzzles are well designed. Checkpointing is generous and you can have your teammates respawn at every checkpoint and you only revert back to the last one when all three of you die. Even with its shortcomings it is fun enough to play through. It is also not a game were you are focused 100% and can’t chat with your friends, so some conversation alongside playing is totally possible.

Shortcomings:

The formula is not fleshed out completely. There is a reason why some of the sequels have a better reputation. The characters feel a little uneven – maybe you should put a rule in place that the characters have to cycle after each level or something to fight frustration with one character.

Cooperative or Multiplayer Game?

The true cooperative element comes in with working together, coordination and good teamwork. Both types are viable and can be great fun. Our aim is to let you know how this game handles this.
