Just Shapes & Beats

Official Trailer

What kind of Coop Game is this?

A music based (not really rhythm based) action game that is a little bit bullet hell, a little bit side-scrolling flying game and all party…it is one hell of an audiovisual experience! It is also very artsy and original and can be played on every coop meetup to spice things up.

Why you should coop this:

Simply: because it is awesome! It marries music and gaming in a supremely fun way. The inputs from your side are quite basic, you have on stick to “fly” your shape and stay away from anything purple andyou have one button to dash a short distance. The coop mechanic is basically just reviving: If a player dies he will slowly be carried out the left side of the screen. This means for the remaining players to somehow incorporate getting to his position while staying alive themselves. Alone most of these devious disco levels would be rather hard but together you often manage to scrape through and it only worked because you worked together. There are also difficulty options that make this game very accesible for all types of gamers. The absolute best thing about this game is that when you turn the music up and play through the – surprisingly fully fledged – coop-campaign you start bopping your head, soon your shoulders follow and it escalates from there. When you feel the music and play great alongside you feel might ecstatic. Yelling out! Jumping up from the couch. It all happens. The game is rush and a party and a great thing to spice up your play sesion. The beautiful thing is that a significant part of what makes this a grat coop experience comes from the reaction of the group to the different tracks and levels and not only from the game mechnics.

The game can be played long after the credits rolled on the campaign. There is a mode where songs can be chosen freely and you earn beat points to unlock even more songs. Also there seems to be DLC now.

Shortcomings:

There is no reason not to play this except you suffer from photosensitive epilepsy or you do not have the ability to play sound on okay or better speakers. Or you don’t like music, which makes you weird.
