What kind of Coop Game is this?

Death Squared is a coop puzzle game where differently colored cubes have to be maneuvered through a cubic, maze-like level to end up on a field of their respective color. Several hazards and complications make it for the whole coop team to think for ways to this and to keep each other alive and unstuck.

Why you should coop this:

There are not that many 4 Player , coop Puzzle games and this one is not only rare it is also great. The team has to suss things out together because every movement might affect one of your teammates. Blocks have to move in lockstep to shield one another. A button pressed might have consequences on other blocks. All player moves might have an effect on other players. So no one is ever done with “his part” since they might reach their final position with ease but they have to enable another player somehow to do so as well. The gameplay mechanics are just great since they introduce several modifiers throughout and develop them further. Levels are clustered around a common theme. The act of playing was just great for our group. Everybody looking at the screen, no controllers in hand and discussing, making suggestions, taking hypotheses from others and develop them further or kill them off. A real good communication game where every thought and idea counts and every player contributes to victory. Also the game gave us some chuckles since some moves can seem so reckless and narcissistic. This one is utterly recommended.

Shortcomings:

I really do not know. Maybe that you do not shoot things? People like that. This is not done here.

Cooperative or Multiplayer Game?

Many games that are listed as Coop are games were you rather play together with players playing simultaneously. The true cooperative element comes in with working together, coordination and good teamwork. Both types are viable and can be great fun. Our aim is to let you know how this game handles this. More on this distinction under “About this Site”.

Awards:

Team Award

You cannot win on your own, you have to coordinate, synchronize and think with your whole team in mind. This leads to the fact that you are sometimes as concerned with other players moves as you are with your own. Even spectators can join in with helpful ideas.
