Why you should coop this:

The idea is simple and great and immediately understood after watching the trailer. As a driver you are totally dependent on your builder partner to build something that is drive-able and if something dangerous will turn up to communicate this quickly and clearly. The game has fleshed out this idea with some smart choices. The tiles for the builder drop in at random and the builder has to turn and place them in the correct fashion and make the best track he can do. Some tiles are special and deliberately have coop in mind: i.e. the water sprout tile will spray a fine mist so that the driver cannot really see what the tile afterward is, so the builder has to keep in mind that he has to communicate if there is a turn looming after the water sprout tile. The chaotic nature is really fun and this is a nice game to play in short bursts. Dying will immediately motivate to try it again but better and switching roles is fun since it makes you see everything from the other perspective and you can see both challenges. Both roles are fun and motivating.

They came up with two fun modes for 2 online players: yardage – get as far as you can and game of drones – the driver has to collect an increasing number of items while drones are shooting at him and the builder has to build a track to all items to advance to next stage.

It really is a fun romp for 2 players and takes a lot of concentration and – at the right times – communication.

We have yet to try any of the other multiplayer options.

Shortcomings:

Both 2-Player game modes however have no kind of save system and are purely highscore based. This is a little bummer since we clearly prefer games that have a campaign to play through and beat but it would be complicated to implement something like this here. Since tiles will get increasingly freaky it might be a good idea to offer a mode that does not throw you back to the start but back a few yards so you can continue driving your track and see it turn into full-on madness (this mode does not have to count for scoreboards obviously) – just to see what the game offers in later stages.

People also might find some of the failures a little to random since driving physics are quite physicsy and you can come out off a jump and be quite uncontrollable. This is a bummer when there was no particular challenging tile in front of you and the builder also did nothing wrong but you just gut a jump tile a little wonky.

For what it is we also thought that 20€ each was quite a high price to ask in this climate. We paid way less for games that felt like they have to offer more. to be fair: we only tried it 2 player online and do not know what the other modes offer.

Cooperative or Multiplayer Game?

Many games that are listed as Coop are games were you rather play together with players playing simultaneously. The true cooperative element comes in with working together, coordination and good teamwork. Both types are viable and can be great fun. Our aim is to let you know how this game handles this. More on this distinction under “About this Site”.
