What kind of Coop Game is this?

BlazeRush is a 4, player, micro-machines style, topdown racing game with weapons. It is racing combat as it has been done before but the very original twist is that the campaign is playable in coop!

Why you should coop this:

In some ways: Hidden Gem Alert! We downloaded this as a micro machines stlye racer because we played too much of Mario Kart. The custom game modes are really neat. There is football, races, death races, king of the hill and they are sometimes 2 on 2 coop sometimes simply multiplayer. But then we found a feature that I think I have never before seen in a racing game: the career mode can be played fully with 4 player local coop. Everyone working together against the CPU. This was a lot of fun. We played through it on 2 days. This game deserves a lot more attention. It looks and plays great. The vehicle variety is nice and sometimes key to mastering a level. If you like these kind of fun racers and have a healthy nostalgia for the micromachines you have to get this, since the designers clearly have been inspired by the games of yore. We were utterly surprised by the quality of this title and it unexpectedly developed to a be show stealer of a whole weekend gaming meet up. It also features online multiplayer but we have not found out if also the career can be played online coop. The coop features mostly are weapon related since you can still support your fellow racers by shooting the CPU but since the campaign goals are rather varied for a game of this kind sometimes you can also hassle the CPU another way and come up with neat coop tactics to win a level that would be a rather harsh drinving test in single player, but since everyone is basically racing the Multiplayer part is rather high. Also the competetive modes are a fun distraction,

Shortcomings:

For this kind of game i don’t think there are many shortcomings. If you like racers and are accustomed to this top down, shared screen approach you will be fine. I think the game does not cater well to racers of different abbility since the shared screen leads to the situation that the best player is putting pressure on the others – this is a mechanic well know from older games of this kind but can lead to a frustrating experience for inexperienced players when the skill levels between players differ greatly.

Cooperative or Multiplayer Game?

Many games that are listed as Coop are games were you rather play together with players playing simultaneously. The true cooperative element comes in with working together, coordination and good teamwork. Both types are viable and can be great fun. Our aim is to let you know how this game handles this.
